Yo! It's been waaaaaay too long since I've last updated my journal.
Figured sharing some Batman action might help break the ice a little.

In case you haven't paid any attention to the shorts that played this
summer over Cartoon Network's DC Nation then you might have missed the
standout work that came from Wolf Smoke Studio.

They're the studio behind Kung Fu Cooking Girls, a short that pretty much brought a new style to the animation table:

This, I believe, is the lead key animator's profile on Pixiv. Just click the image to go there and browse his gallery. It's quality:

Always a beautiful thing to see a new studio doing so well against all odds. They're almost doing the impossible over there in China. Hopefully we'll see them producing more memorable animation. I wish them many years of success and growth.

As far as myself, I've got some animation of my own coming down the pipe. More on that in the future...I'm far from dead. :ninja:

They blocked the first 3 videos in my country. Great.
I saw the last one a while back. I don't like some things, but it's nice.

Fantastic! It puts 90% of Cartoon Network animations to shame and I'm being conservative. Great energy, action, and style. Would LOVE to see the full series....of ANY comic done by this team. Epic!

Hoping they get some opportunities worth putting time into and raise the bar. They've got the chops to do it.

Same here. Too bad the movie deal they had not too long ago fell through.

Hopefully I'll get to share some of what I've been up to in a bit. Just need the greenlight.

How's the motion comic coming? Looking forward to seeing it.

its coming along, ended up becoming a bigger project than expected, didn't want to rush, allowing it to marinate a bit, so it can be totally savory once we ready to serve what we have...i think i'm just hungry

For a couple of years professionally. I started learning about animation when I was twelve by playing around with flipbooks. I haven't been deadly serious about it for long, though. Only five years.

The number one tip I can think of is to practice patience and your willingness to fix mistakes. That'll help you keep your focus when things just aren't working out the way you'd like them to in your animation.

Thanks for the advice, but since I'm taking the required classes before I can start animating I'm just sticking to drawing in the mean time. I'm so antsy about animation. I love it.

You can start animating now. No need to wait for classes. They won't grant you enough time to practice when you make it to them. School has a way of sucking up all your time, as I'm sure you already know.

There's something very fitting about punching the linework like that for impacts and hits.

You're right but it is only fitting for action type shows. I don't think this style would work for a serious drama cartoon.

It could depending on directing and context. Wolf Smoke is capable of a variety of styles, this just happens to be the one they're known for right now.

It is! I like how they're punching up the impact of blows by thickening the linework. That's something I've experimented with, but have never taken to that level.

It'd be great if DC gave more work to Wolf Smoke, in that regard. It's up to them whether that happens or not.
