5-second Moving Illustration Loop

WOW!
Hard to believe one of my first deviations was honored with a Daily Deviation.

An unplanned sketch that turned into a 15-hour journey through Photoshop, After Effects, and Flash.

Frankly, I started this just to test out Richard Rosenman's Depth of Field Generator Plug-in for Photoshop, but ended up with a moving illustration. :)

I'm still a noob at background rendering, so I opted for flat colors. The girl is riding a hippo, by the way.

How much movement can you detect?

How it was made...

Made in Photoshop CS4 Extended
This Work is 100% Digital

BREAKDOWN

1) 1 hour sketch

2) 11-hours fiddling around with color and background [testing a new color technique]

3) 4-hours playing in After Effects

4) 20 minutes compressing things in Flash

Completed in four sittings

Time outside of this went to CPU effects rendering.

Girl of the Grasses by *thatLD. The suggestor said: "I know that it's not much on terms of animation. But! That's because the movement is subtle and peaceful. I can almost hear a flute playing in the background. And the more or less frozen girl upon her rock (hippo?) with that slightly disbelieving, but still listening, look gracing her face has been created beautifully. Not to forget the rippling refections in the water." Myself, I believe that this teaches you to look beyond what you see, and really look into a picture before you begin to judge. Every time I went back to look at it, I noticed something else that was subtely animated, and I felt more and more engaged with the image the more I looked at it. Thanks!

There's some motion on the hair, too; it's subtle but there.

I learned quite a bit when I made this and am definitely motivated to make more.
